Taufik looks to cement China ties

SEASONED Indonesian player Taufik Hidayat said that he would seek cooperation with China after his retirement to groom talents at his international-class academy in Jakarta.

Winner of several major championships in his long career, Taufik plans to retire by the middle of next year. He said that he would spend most of his time to develop talented players at his newly-built badminton training center, Taufik Hidayat Arena, in Ciracas.

Taufik said he would involve foreign coaches and experts of the game, including those from China, with whom he had developed good relationships during his 16-year career.

"I took part in Chinese badminton league. I feel so close with the country. The cooperation can be conducted by coach or player-exchange programs. Or perhaps, they can undertake training here or the other way around," Taufik said yesterday.

"We can build close cooperation. After all, sports is meant to make closer relations between people.

"I have very good relations with Li Yongbo, one of the Chinese team coaches. He knows that I have this facility and he knows that I will be here after my retirement," he added.
