Braun gets suspended
MILWAUKEE Brewers slugger Ryan Braun has become the first star to fall in baseball's latest drug investigation, being suspended without pay for the rest of the 2013 season.
The 2011 National League MVP was hit with the punishment on Monday for unspecified violations of Major League Baseball's drug policy.
He avoided a 50-game ban last year when an arbitrator overturned his positive test for elevated testosterone because the urine sample had been improperly handled.
Unlike his defiant tone in 2012, Braun accepted Monday's sanction.
"I am not perfect. I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions," he said.
Braun will miss Milwaukee's final 65 games without pay, costing him about US$3 million.
