Edmonds retires
JIM Edmonds, a powerful center fielder, has retired from Major League Baseball after 17 seasons, the St. Louis Cardinals said on Friday. Edmonds, 40, whose aggressive style in the outfield led to numerous injuries over a career spent mainly with the Angels and Cardinals, had hoped to play another season with St. Louis but an Achilles tendon injury pushed him into retirement.
