Giants climb out of deficit to defeat Dodgers 5-4
THE San Francisco Giants fought back from three runs down to beat division rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 on Tuesday.
Aaron Rowand tripled to lead off the seventh inning then scored on Blake Hawksworth's wild pitch to bring home the go-ahead score for the Giants.
Closer Brian Wilson recorded his first save of the season after starting the year on the disabled list as San Francisco earned a comeback win in front of their home crowd.
"These games lift you up more than games where you're coasting 8-0," Giants starter Tim Lincecum told reporters. "The crowd is different. The emotions are different."
Lincecum, a two-times Cy Young Award winner, surrendered all three of his allowed runs in the fourth where San Francisco fell behind 0-3. The Giants (5-6) stormed back to take the lead after scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.
Buster Posey had RBI singles in each inning and finished 3-for-4 while Rowand added an RBI in the fifth.
Dodgers pinch-hitter Marcus Thames tied the contest 4-4 with a solo home run in the top of the seventh off reliever Giants Jeremy Affeldt, who was credited with the win. Los Angeles (6-5) entered the game having won four of five meetings with the defending World Series champions this year.
Red-hot Matt Kemp led off the scoring with an RBI double and had two hits to raise his batting average to .472. Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley struck out six batters and allowed four runs in five innings of his no-decision.
Elsewhere in the National League, it was: Nationals 7, Phillies 4; Astros 11, Cubs 2; Braves 5, Nationals 0; Reds 8, Padres 2, 11 innings; and Diamondbacks 13, Cardinals 8.
In the American League, Angels 2, Indians 0; Tigers 5, Rangers 4; Rays 3, Red Sox 2; Mariners 3, Blue Jays 2; White Sox 6, Athletics 5, 10 innings; Twins 4, and Royals 3, 10 innings.
