Halladay retires

Roy Halladay, who had a reputation as a dominant hard-working starting pitcher, retired on Monday after signing a one-day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. The 36-year-old signed the deal and then immediately retired from the Blue Jays. He had spent 12 seasons playing for Toronto, but had pitched the last four years of his brilliant career with the Philadelphia Phillies. He earned 203 career wins. Halladay won the Cy Young Award as the top pitcher in both the American League and National League and threw a postseason no-hitter in 2010.
