Indians survive meltdown

Cleveland veteran Jason Giambi belted a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give the Indians a stunning 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, keeping the Indians up with the lead pack in the American League wild-card battle.

Tampa Bay beat the New York Yankees 7-0, Texas defeated Houston 3-2, while Detroit downed Minnesota 4-2. St Louis edged closer to securing the Central title by beating Washington 2-0, while Pittsburgh and Cincinnati also won.

In other games, it was: Blue Jays 3, Orioles 2 (10); Rockies 8, Red Sox 3; Indians 5, White Sox 4; Cardinals 2, Nationals 0; Braves 3, Brewers 2; Phillies 2, Marlins 1; Angels 3, Athletics 0; Dodgers 2, Giants 1; Mariners 4, Royals 0; and Diamondbacks 2, Padres 1.
