Lind homers twice in Toronto's big win

THE Toronto Blue Jays battered opposing pitcher Matt Harrison to defeat the Texas Rangers 10-3 on Tuesday.

Adam Lind smashed two home runs and finished with five RBIs as the Blue Jays scored five times in the first inning and chased Harrison after three innings and seven runs.

Toronto (11-12) scored two runs in the third and three more in the fourth where Lind had a three-run blast as it beat Texas in the second game of a four-game series.

"I just had a good game tonight," Lind told reporters.

"Jose (Bautista) has been walking a lot and you can tell people don't want to pitch to him. I just want to give him protection."

Blue Jays starter Jesse Litsch tossed six innings for the win and allowed a three-run inning for the Rangers (14-9) in the second where Julio Borbon had a two RBI single.

Catcher Yorvit Torrealba went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the loss while Michael Young had his 15-game hitting streak snapped for American League West-leading Texas. Harrison has lost consecutive starts after beginning the season 3-0.

Juan Rivera had two hits and an RBI for Toronto and Corey Patterson also added two hits.

Fifth straight

In Cleveland, Justin Masterson won his fifth straight start as the Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 9-4 to open a 2-1/2 game lead in the American League Central division.

Masterson allowed five hits in 6 2-3 innings to move to a 5-0 record - the reverse of his 0-5 start in 2010. The Royals have dropped four in a row.

Elsewhere in AL, it was: Angels 8, Athletics 3; White Sox 3, Yankees 2; Mariners 7, Tigers 3; and Orioles 4, Red Sox 1.

In the National League, Los Angeles' Andre Ethier set a major league hitting record but it was not enough to prevent the Dodgers sliding to a 2-4 loss at the hands of the Florida Marlins.

Ethier hit safely for his 23rd straight game, the most by any player ever in April.

In Chicago, Todd Helton hit two home runs as the Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago Cubs 4-3. It was the 27th career multihomer game for Helton and his first since 2007.

Also, it was: Diamondbacks 7, Phillies 5; Brewers 3, Reds 2; Astros 6, Cardinals 5; Giants 3, Pirates 2, 10 innings; Braves 8, Padres 2; and Mets 6, Nationals 4.
