Longoria traded to Giants
Three-time Major League Baseball All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria was obtained by the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday in a trade deal with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Giants, who matched the Detroit Tigers for the worst record in the major leagues this past season at 64-98, sent Tampa Bay top infield prospect Christian Arroyo plus pitchers Matt Krook and Stephen Woods. Tampa Bay will also assume the final US$9-million year of outfielder Denard Span鈥檚 contract. 鈥淭his move fills an important need for our club and completes one of our offseason goals,鈥 said Brian Sabean, the Giants executive vice president of baseball operations. Longoria has five seasons remaining on a six-year contract worth US$100 million that also includes a seventh-year club option. Longoria, 32, spent his entire 10-year career with Tampa Bay, winning American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2008 and claiming his third Gold Glove Award in 2017.
