Martinez ties MLB HR mark

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder JD Martinez tied a Major League record with four home runs on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Martinez hit home runs in the fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings to power Arizona to a 13-0 victory against baseball’s best team. The 30-year-old, who went 4-for-5 and had six RBI, is the 18th player to hit four home runs in a single game in the majors. “It’s kind of one of those things where you’re laughing about it,” Martinez said. “Shocked, no. But it’s one of those things. When you’re seeing the ball well and you hit the ball, if you ask any hitter here, you’re expecting to hit the ball hard every time.” Martinez, acquired from the Detroit Tigers in July, now has 34 homers this season, 18 of which have been with the Diamondbacks.
