Peavy inks Giants deal

VETERAN pitcher Jake Peavy, who helped San Francisco win the World Series for the third time in five seasons, has signed a two-year deal to remain with the Giants.

The team said on Tuesday that the 33-year-old right-hander would remain in San Francisco, which obtained him from Boston in July just ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline. The deal, reportedly worth US$20 million, comes after Peavy revived his fortunes in 2014 following only one win in 20 starts with the Red Sox. Peavy, a three-time All-Star and 2007 Cy Young Award winner as the National League’s top pitcher, went 6-4 with the Giants in 12 regular-season starts with a 2.17 ERA and went 1-2 in four playoff appearances.
