Surgery for Romero

PHILADELPHIA Phillies left-handed reliever J.C. Romero was scheduled to have surgery yesterday to repair the flexor tendon in his left forearm and will be out for the playoffs. He will need five to six months to recover. The Phillies open the playoffs against the Colorado Rockies. Romero went 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 21 games for the National League East champions. He earned two wins in Philadelphia's World Series victory over Tampa Bay last year. He also served a 50-game suspension this season for testing positive for a banned substance.
