Yankees’ Dominican rookie league squad hits 38 runs
This was an offensive outburst that would impress even the Bronx Bombers.
The New York Yankees’ rookie-level affiliate in the Dominican Summer League routed the Minnesota Twins’ squad 38-2 — yes, that’s 38 runs! — on Wednesday. All 11 DSL Yankees batters had at least two hits and the team used 31 hits, including five home runs and a season-high nine doubles, to put up the scoreboard smashing totals — despite leaving 26 runners on base. They scored in every inning except the first. Oh, and get this: There was even a save in the 36-run victory. Luis Velasquez earned the save after pitching the final four innings and allowing three hits while striking out seven in relief of starter Josue Panacual (1-0).
