Yankees' Jeter, A-Rod move up on all-time lists

THE New York Yankees returned to action after two days off with a 7-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, while stalwarts Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez moved up on two all-time lists.
Rodriguez slugged a three-run homer in the first inning and Robinson Cano stroked a two-run double in another three-run outburst in the second to propel Yankees starter A.J. Burnett to his third win of the season.
The Yankees, rained out on Tuesday after a scheduled day off on Monday, jumped out to their quick lead against Orioles starter Chris Tillman, who dropped to 0-1.
"Maybe the couple of days off helped. You want to be able to get on the board and get your starting pitcher some runs early," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi.
Burnett (3-0) struggled early, throwing 52 pitches to get through the first two innings, but got into a groove after being staked to the 6-0 lead. Matt Wieters and Brian Roberts hit two-run homers in the seventh to drive him from the game. Relievers David Robertson, Rafael Soriano and Mariano Rivera finished up, with Rivera notching his fifth save.
Jeter tied Barry Bonds for 32nd on the all-time hit list on 2,935 with an RBI-infield hit in the second inning, while Rodriguez's blast gave him 1,839 RBIs, tying him with Al Simmons and Ted Williams for 11th place all-time. The win improved the Yankees' record to 6-4 and tied them with the Orioles for first place in the American League East.
