Yankees hammer Chisox
SERGIO Mitre shook off an eight-day lay off and combined with Chad Gaudin on a one-hitter as the New York Yankees routed the slumping Chicago White Sox 10-0 in the American League on Saturday.
Mitre (3-1) was perfect until Jim Thome ripped a bad-hop double past Gold Glove first baseman Mark Teixeira with one out in the fifth for Chicago's only hit. Mitre left with a bruised right forearm after being nailed by A.J. Pierzynski's liner in the seventh.
Alex Rodriguez hit his 576th homer, and Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano each got three of New York's 14 hits.
In other American League games, it was: Rays 3, Tigers 1;
Red Sox 3, Blue Jays 2; Indians 5, Orioles 3; Rangers 3, Twins 0; Athletics 4, Angels 3; and Mariners 8, Royals 4.
In the National League, it was: Dodgers 11, Reds 4; Cubs 11, Mets 4; Padres 7, Marlins 4; Braves 9, Phillies 1; Cardinals 9, Nationals 4; and Giants 5; Rockies 3.
In Detroit, David Price (7-6) lasted a career-best 7 1-3 innings and allowed a run and five hits to help Tampa Bay beat Detroit.
Nate Robertson (1-1) took the loss as he was making his first start of the season since elbow surgery.
In Minneapolis, Scott Feldman held Minnesota scoreless into the sixth inning and helped Texas keep pace in the wild-card chase.
