Celtics complete perfect road trip, beat Thunder
THE visiting Boston Celtics completed a perfect road trip with a 105-87 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA yesterday.
Kevin Garnett led the scoring with 23 points. He piled on nine straight, including three dunks, to put Boston in command early in the second half en route to its seventh straight win.
Paul Pierce added 21 in the first half for the Celtics.
Kevin Durant scored 36 points for Oklahoma City.
Lakers 108, Heat 107
In Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant sank a 3-pointer on the buzzer to give Los Angeles a thrilling win over Miami, extending the Lakers' winning run to eight.
Bryant scored 33 points, but his off-balance bank shot from the top of the arc, over Dwayne Wade's outstretched hand, will rank among the most incredible shots of his career.
Wade scored nine of his 26 points in the final 2 minutes, but missed a free throw with 3 seconds left to give Los Angeles one last chance.
The Lakers remain atop the overall NBA standings.
Grizzlies 98, Mavericks 82
In Memphis, Tennessee, Memphis recorded a comfortable win against a Dallas team that lost its radar.
Zach Randolph had 24 points and 15 rebounds for the Grizzlies, and O.J. Mayo added 25 points.
Dallas shot 58 percent in Wednesday's win over New Jersey, but just 35 percent against Memphis.
Jason Terry led Dallas with 18 points.
Cavaliers 101, Bulls 87
In Cleveland, LeBron James had 23 points and 11 assists to lift Cleveland over Chicago.
Mo Williams and Daniel Gibson added 15 points apiece for the Cavaliers, who avenged a one-point loss to the Bulls a month earlier.
Rookie Taj Gibson had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Chicago, which has dropped six of seven.
Knicks 114, Hawks 107
In Atlanta, New York used an effective combination of 3-pointers and drives to defeat Atlanta.
Al Harrington scored 27 points and Chris Duhon had 25 points and 10 assists for the Knicks, who sank nine 3-pointers in the first half.
Joe Johnson led Atlanta with 29 points.
Jazz 96, Pacers 87
In Salt Lake City, Carlos Boozer scored a season-high 35 points and had 13 rebounds to lead Utah to its fourth straight victory, overcoming Indiana.
Danny Granger led Indiana with 26 points.
Pistons 105, Bucks 96
In Auburn Hills, Michigan, Detroit overcame Milwaukee in a match of two out-of-form teams.
Rodney Stuckey scored 19 points and rookie Jonas Jerebko added 16 as Detroit won for just the second time in 10 games.
Luke Ridnour's 21 points led Milwaukee, which has dropped six of seven.
Raptors 109, Wizards 107, OT
In Washington, Hedo Turkoglu hit a jump shot with 8 seconds left in overtime as Toronto edged Washington.
Turkoglu scored Toronto's final six points and finished with 20 overall. Chris Bosh's 31 points and 16 rebounds led the Raptors, who snapped a run of five defeats.
Turkoglu took an inbound pass on the right baseline and put up a shot over a marker to complete the scoring.
On the final possession, Washington's Gilbert Arenas missed a layup with about 2 seconds left, and the Wizards' tip-in attempts also failed. Arenas finished with a season-high 34 points.
Hornets 98, Timberwolves 89
In New Orleans, Chris Paul had 16 points, 15 assists and a season-best eight steals in his return from injury as New Orleans defeated Minnesota.
Paul had missed eight games because of a sprained ankle.
Devin Brown led the Hornets with 19 points.
Al Jefferson had 20 points and 14 rebounds for Minnesota, which has lost 17 of 18.
Nets 97, Bobcats 91
In New Jersey, the hosts won their first game this season, ending the worst start in NBA history and downing Charlotte.
Brook Lopez had 31 points and 14 rebounds, and Courtney Lee scored a career-high 27 points in his return to the starting lineup for the Nets.
It was New Jersey's first game under Kiki Vandeweghe, their general manager who will coach the rest of the season.
Raymond Felton and Stephen Jackson each scored 28 points for the Bobcats.
