China sets up Jordan Asia final

CHINA overcame South Korea in a low-scoring battle in Wuhan, Hubei Province, last night to join Jordan in the Asian Championship title game.

Jordan had earlier stunned Asian powerhouse the Philippines 75-61 to reach its maiden final.

Yi Jianlian stepped up with 17 points and 12 rebounds to pace the hosts even though South Korea ensured a slightly better start to the game. The Koreans limited the home team to just 8 points in the opening frame to take a 3-point lead.

China capped the first half on a 7-2 run to go 21-19 into the break and then opened the second half with six points in a row to stretch the lead.

South Korea never got closer than four points in the final quarter as China rolled to victory.

Wang Zhizhi posted 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Liu Wei added 11 points for China. Yang Dong-geun replied with 17 points for South Korea, with Moon Tae-jong and Kim Yong-hwan adding 6 points each in the loss.

In the earlier semifinal, Jordan forward Rasheim Wright won his duel with his Filipino counterpart Marcus Douthit by scoring 24 points to the latter's 21.

Osame Daghles and Zaid Ahmed Abbas added 16 and 14 points, respectively, for Jordan.
