Dazzling Harris makes winning return for Sharks
THE Shanghai Sharks beat the second-ranked Dongguan Leopard 110-97 yesterday thanks to an emotional game from their leader.
Just back in China after attending the funeral of his brother, Mike Harris played a spectacular and heartfelt game, scoring 38 points and collecting 12 rebounds.
Shanghai coach Daniel Panaggio tipped his hat to Harris's performance and his dedication to his team. "It's fitting that he should get off the plane at 3:30pm, drive back to his apartment, drop his baby off and get here maybe 30 minutes before the game tonight. Then light it up for 38 points," he said.
Entering the game late in the first quarter to a warm reception from the home crowd, Harris knocked down his patented mid-range jumper just seconds later. He followed that up with a put-back and a three-pointer to give Shanghai an 11 point lead.
In the second it was more of the same from Harris as he used a variety of moves to manufacture 13 points.
Dongguan kept in the game by hitting 7 three-pointers in the half, but Harris came from the three-point line to tip in a Liu Wei miss at the buzzer for a 57-43 lead.
A sloppy third quarter from the Sharks let Dongguan back in the game. But Harris reestablished his dominance in the fourth by knocking down 3 of 4 three-pointers allowing Shanghai to pull away.
