THE National Basketball Association fined Portland Trail Blazers' Rudy Fernandez US$25,000 for public statements considered detrimental to the league after local media quoted his agent as saying he wanted a release from his contract. Fernandez, a first round pick of the Phoenix Suns in the 2007 draft, averaged 8.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2 assists last season with Portland.
