France coach renews contract

France basketball coach Vincent Collet has renewed his contract for three years after guiding the national team to its first international success at the European championship.
France beat Lithuania 80-66 in Slovenia on Sunday, two years after losing the final to Spain. The 50-year-old Collet initially took charge on a four-year contract in 2009, and will now lead the team until at least the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, the French Basketball Federation said in a statement yesterday. Collet has won 64 matches and lost 26 during his time as France coach. Three-time National Basketball Association champion Tony Parker was France’s inspiration and was voted the tournament’s MVP.
