Free-scoring Knicks gun down Spurs
THE New York Knicks had too much firepower for San Antonio on Tuesday and continued their high-scoring antics with a crushing 128-115 victory over the NBA-leading Spurs.
Wilson Chandler scored 31 points while Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton each tallied 28 as the Knicks (20-14) snapped the Spurs' four-game winning streak.
New York, which entered the night averaging an NBA-best 107.2 points per game, continued its resurgence after signing Stoudemire as a free agent in the offseason.
"We feel like we can match up with the best of them," Stoudemire said. "So we feel like we're right there, but we've just got to play with some consistency and keep it going all year."
Tony Parker led the way with 26 points, and DeJuan Blair added 17, for San Antonio (29-5).
The Spurs scored 69 points in the first half but still found themselves three points down and they were unable to keep pace with the Knicks down the stretch.
"If we score 115 points I expect to win the game," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "Our defense was pathetic."
With the game tied at 78-78 in the third, New York went on a 7-0 run and never looked back en route to its second straight win.
The Knicks played without starting forward Danilo Gallinari, who is expected to miss 2-3 weeks after spraining his left knee in Sunday's win against Indiana.
In the final minutes of their defeat, the Spurs benched Parker, along with Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili in preparation for Wednesday's matchup with the Boston Celtics. Ginobili finished with 15 points.
In Miami, Dwyane Wade scored 34 points, and LeBron James added 25 points and nine assists as the Heat pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 101-89 for their 19th win in 20 games.
Chris Bosh finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Heat, who trailed most of the third quarter before putting together a 32-13 burst, sealed by a 13-0 run in the final minutes.
It was Miami's final home game for two weeks; the Heat start a five-game, 10-day trip in Milwaukee on Friday. Miami has won 11 straight away.
John Salmons scored 18 points for Milwaukee, which got 16 from Andrew Bogut and 14 from former Heat guard Keyon Dooling. The Bucks were outrebounded 47-34.
Elsewhere, it was: Lakers 108, Pistons 83; Mavericks 84, Trail Blazers 81; Grizzlies 110, Thunder 105; Hawks 108, Kings 102; and Bulls 111, Raptors 91.
