Guo named coach
CHINA has appointed 33-year-old Guo Shiqiang as the new coach of the national basketball team, the China Basketball Association said on its Website.
Guo, described as "honest and upright" by the CBA, was a teammate of Yao Ming at the 2004 Olympics and assistant to Lithuanian coach Jonas Kazlauskas at last year's Beijing Games, where China finished eighth. His first task will be to reclaim the continental crown at the biennial Asian championships in Tianjin later this year. China sent a reserve team two years ago and failed to win the title for only the third time in 17 championships going back to 1975.
