Hawks escape to victory over Suns

JAMAL Crawford hit a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap an Atlanta comeback in the final seconds, giving the Hawks a 102-101 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the NBA yesterday.

The home team trailed 100-96 with 10 seconds left, but squeezed two more possessions out of the clock, and the Suns missed a couple of chances to put the Hawks away.

Crawford was first to a rebound from a free throw, and his putback made it 100-99.

After Amare Stoudemire sank one free throw for Phoenix, then a timeout, Mike Bibby inbounded the ball to Crawford, who put up a 28-foot winner.

Mavericks 99, Thunder 98

In Dallas, Dirk Nowitzki scored 32 points to lead Dallas past Oklahoma City.

Jason Terry added 21 for the Mavericks, who have beaten the Thunder franchise nine straight times in Dallas dating to 2004.

Nowitzki and Terry scored 16 of the final 18 points for the Mavericks.

Kevin Durant scored 30 points on 6 of 18 shooting and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds for the Thunder.

Heat 115, Rockets 106

In Houston, Dwyane Wade scored 37 points, his second consecutive big game since spraining his wrist, as Miami beat Houston.

Rafer Alston had 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting against his former team as the Heat snapped Houston's eight-game home winning streak.

Wade hit 15 of 24 shots and dished out eight assists.

Bobcats 92, Spurs 76

In Charlotte, North Carolina, Boris Diaw had 26 points and 11 rebounds as Charlotte notched a franchise-record sixth straight home win.

Gerald Wallace added 21 points and some acrobatic blocks as the Bobcats took control with a dominant defensive stand that bridged the third and fourth quarters. The Spurs went more than 9 minutes without a field goal, and the Bobcats' 19-2 run put them ahead 70-57 and secured their sixth win in seven games overall.

San Antonio lost its first game in four.

Raptors 112, Knicks 104

In New York, Andrea Bargnani had 24 points and 12 rebounds, helping Toronto get off to a sizzling start in a victory over New York.

Jose Calderon matched a season high with 21 points for the Raptors.

Bargnani hurt the Knicks inside and out, making five 3-pointers and shooting 9 of 13 from the field.

Toronto shot 53 percent and opened a 28-point lead.

Pistons 110, Hornets 104, OT

In Auburn Hills, Michigan, Richard Hamilton scored a season-high 32 points to lead Detroit over New Orleans in overtime.

Rodney Stuckey scored eight of his 13 points in overtime.

Chris Paul had 24 points and 14 assists for the Hornets before fouling out.

Bulls 121, Wizards 119, 2OT

In Chicago, Derrick Rose scored a career-high 37 points and hit the go-ahead basket with 5.4 seconds left in the second overtime as Chicago overcame an inspired Washington.

Just hours after teammate and suspended star Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge, the Wizards put in everything they had but fell just short.

Antawn Jamison had a season-high 34 points and 18 rebounds for Washington.

76ers 98, Kings 86

In Philadelphia, Sam Dalembert made a $100,00 donation to help relief efforts in his native Haiti, then had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lift Philadelphia over Sacramento.

Thaddeus Young scored 20 points for the Sixers, who hit a pair of 3-pointers during a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter that turned a tight game into a comfortable victory in front of one of their largest crowds of the season.

Jason Thompson had 19 points and 16 rebounds for the Kings.

Grizzlies 135, Timberwolves 110

In Memphis, Tennessee, Memphis made it seven straight home wins by routing Minnesota.

Rudy Gay scored 21 points, while Zach Randolph and O.J. Mayo added 20 apiece for the Grizzlies.

Corey Brewer's 22 points led the Timberwolves, who dropped a fourth straight.

Pacers 121, Nets 105

In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Indiana piled on 72 points in the first half to notch a third straight victory, downing woeful New Jersey.

Danny Granger scored 22 of his 28 points in the first-half blitz, while Troy Murphy added 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Pacers, who made a strong start after having been forced claw back 20-plus point deficits to win their previous two.

Devin Harris had 22 points and nine assists for the Nets, who lost their seventh straight.
