James at it again as Heat too strong for Clippers

LEBRON James notched 20 points, five rebounds and the same number of assists as the Miami Heat beat the Los Angeles Clippers 94-80 in their first NBA China game in Beijing last night with Clippers' Chris Paul sitting on the bench.

The two teams will train at the Oriental Sports Center tomorrow before their showdown at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on Sunday.

James was in top form that won him the MVP in the NBA last season, securing the win for the Heat in just three quarters. His All-Star teammate Dwayne Wade scored five points, four steals and two blocks. Chris Bosh added 10 points and four rebounds.

James was voted the player of the game.

Ray Allen, who moved from Boston to Miami this summer, scored 15 points after shooting four out of eight three-pointers. Miami's starting point guard Mario Chalmers did not play.

For the Clippers, starting point guard and London Olympic gold medalist Paul sat on the bench with an injury. Blake Griffin scored the team-high 19 points and had eight rebounds but also had six turnovers. Caron Butler was the most stable scorer in the team with 13 points. Jamal Crawford contributed another 16 points.

"It's my first game after the knee surgery this summer. I tried to have fun and get into a little shape today," Wade told reporters last night. "The fans are amazing here and I think the Shanghai fans should just be as good as here."

Although it was a preseason game, defending NBA champion Miami took the game seriously, suffocating the Clippers who had 25 turnovers.

Heat's Shane Battier scored the first point of the evening with a three-pointer and helped the team to lead the game all the way. Both the teams played fast in the first half while the Heat adapted the pace better. With a 10-2 run in the first quarter, Miami gradually expanded the lead. In the second half, James's two dunks helped the Heat to lead by 23 points. By the end of the quarter, Butler and Crawford's three pointers helped the Clippers to narrow the gap a little and the first half ended with 53-35.

Griffin tried to pull the Clippers back to the game in the third quarter by successive slams and jump shots but the Heat's following three-pointers kept it a 20-point game.
