Jazz stages another big comeback, beats Magic
THE Utah Jazz notched another stunning comeback victory to defeat the host Orlando Magic 104-94 in the NBA yesterday.
A night after coming from 22 points down to beat the star-studded Miami Heat, Utah this time was 18 points behind in the third quarter before an impressive rally.
Deron Williams scored 30 points and Paul Millsap added 23 for the Jazz.
Vince Carter had 20 points for the Magic, who had their four-game winning streak snapped and lost for the first time in the new Amway Center.
Wizards 98, Rockets 91
In Washington, rookie John Wall got his first triple-double with 19 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds to lead Washington over Houston.
Rockets' giant Yao Ming missed most of the game after he strained a tendon in his leg in the first quarter.
Washington used a 10-0 run late in the fourth quarter to pull away after blowing an 11-point lead.
Andray Blatche finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Wizards.
Kevin Martin scored 31 points for the Rockets, who have lost six of seven.
Bobcats 101, Raptors 96
In Toronto, Stephen Jackson scored 20 points to help Charlotte beat Toronto.
Gerald Wallace had 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Bobcats, who ended a three-game losing streak.
Jackson stripped Toronto center Andrea Bargnani with five seconds left and the Bobcats clinging to a three-point edge, then sealed it with a pair of free throws.
Bargnani scored 23 points for the Raptors, who have lost six straight for the first time since a seven-game slide in 2008-09.
Bucks 108, Hawks 91
In Atlanta, Milwaukee extended its offensive awakening with a victory over Atlanta.
The Bucks struggled with their offense early in the season and were last in the league in scoring with only 89.6 points per game before taking a 107-80 win over New York on Tuesday. They were as impressive against the Hawks in taking back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Corey Maggette scored 20 points and Brandon Jennings added 19 for Milwaukee.
The Hawks have lost three straight, including two at home, after winning their first six.
Warriors 122, Knicks 117
In New York, Golden State improved to its best start in 16 years by downing New York.
David Lee scored a season-high 28 points in his return to New York and Dorell Wright made two huge baskets in the final two minutes as the Warriors made it six wins from eight games to start the new campaign.
Golden State blew a 19-point lead in the second half but were bailed out by Wright, who hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:58 remaining and added an insurance basket a minute later.
Lee grabbed his 10th rebound after Wilson Chandler missed a tying 3-point attempt and sank two clinching free throws with 1.5 seconds left.
Nets 95, Cavaliers 87
In Cleveland, New Jersey ended a run of five straight losses by beating Cleveland.
Devin Harris scored a season-high 31 and Kris Humphries added 13 and 18 rebounds in his first start as the Nets notched their first road win.
New Jersey won despite not having starting forward Troy Murphy and shooting just 19 of 35 from the free-throw line.
J.J. Hickson scored 15 to lead Cleveland, which led by 11 in the third but went faltered late and had its winning streak stopped at three.
The Cavs also lost guard Mo Williams in the third quarter because of a groin strain.
Mavericks 106, Grizzlies 91
In Memphis, Jason Terry scored 25 points to lead Dallas past Memphis.
Terry connected on 11 of 16 shots from the field as the Mavericks completed a run of three wins from their first three road games.
Shawn Marion added 20 points.
Zach Randolph led Memphis with 23 points.
Thunder 109, 76ers 103
In Oklahoma City, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook each scored 31 points and came up with the key late baskets to help Oklahoma City hold off a late Philadelphia charge.
Westbrook had a key layup off an inbound pass with just over 2? minutes left to keep Philadelphia from having a shot at the tie, and Durant helped put it away with a three-point play with 44 seconds remaining.
Rookie Jodie Meeks scored 13 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the 76ers' bid to erase an 11-point deficit. The Sixers reached three figure for the fifth straight game for the first time since 2005-06.
Timberwolves 98, Kings 89
In Sacramento, Michael Beasley scored a career-high 42 points and nine rebounds to help Minnesota beat Sacramento, snapping a six-game losing streak.
Beasley made 17 of 31 shots and hit 7 of 10 free throws and surpassed his previous high of 30 points early in the third quarter.
Any win is a big victory for the Timberwolves, who entered the game having dropped 36 of their previous 39 games dating back to last season. Minnesota had lost its previous six road games this season after winning only five away from home a year ago.
Omri Casspi had 17 points for the Kings, who dropped their third straight game.
Spurs 107, Clippers 95
In San Antonio, the hosts won their fifth straight, overcoming an undermanned Los Angeles.
Manu Ginobili and Richard Jefferson scored 22 points apiece for the Spurs, who have won 18 straight against the Clippers.
Los Angeles was without Eric Gordon, Baron Davis and Chris Kaman - three of their four leading scorers - and are off to another horrendous start, falling to 1-8, so far showing no signs of the forecast playoff potential.
Rasual Butler led the Clippers with 18 points.
