Jazz stung by Bulls and ex-players
CHICAGO'S Derrick Rose scored 29 points and former Jazz players Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer made key plays late to lift the Bulls to a 91-86 win over Utah in the NBA yesterday.
Another former Jazz favorite, Carlos Boozer, made his return to Utah in a Bulls uniform and finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
Korver sank a 3-pointer with 2:17 remaining to give the Bulls an 87-83 lead. The Jazz cut it to 87-86 on free throws by Al Jefferson and Andrei Kirilenko, but Rose sank two more free throws to put Chicago ahead by three again with 13 seconds left.
Brewer, drafted by the Jazz in 2006, then stole the ball from Deron Williams and sank two free throws for the final margin.
Jefferson led the Jazz with 28 points.
Spurs 111, Raptors 100
In Toronto, San Antonio's DeJuan Blair matched a career high by scoring 14 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter, helping the NBA-leading San Antonio beat Toronto.
Blair, who also had 11 rebounds, matched the 28 points he scored against Oklahoma City last season.
Antonio George Hill had 18 points as San Antonio made it 15 wins from 17 games.
Andrea Bargnani scored 29 points for the Raptors, who have lost 15 of 16.
Magic 99, 76ers 95
In Philadelphia, Orlando extended its dominance over Philadelphia.
Dwight Howard had 30 points and 17 rebounds, J.J. Redick came off the bench to score 13 points as the Magic made it 14 wins from its past 16 meetings with the Sixers.
Lou Williams got 18 of his 23 in the fourth quarter, nearly rallying the Sixers to a comeback win himself.
The Magic is tied with Atlanta for fourth place in the East, 5? games behind conference-leading Boston.
Warriors 116, Nuggets 114
In Oakland, Monta Ellis scored 37 points to lead Golden State over undermanned Denver.
Dorell Wright had 23 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Warriors.
Carmelo Anthony finished with 29 points for a Nuggets team playing without injured point guard Chauncey Billups.
Mavericks 102, Kings 100
In Sacramento, Dallas' winning streak reached double figures with victory over Sacramento.
Jason Terry scored 22 points and Jose Barea had 20, including 15 in the fourth quarter for Dallas.
Samuel Dalembert had a season-high 20 points for the Kings, who squandered a fourth-quarter lead for the 18th time this season.
Nets 103, Hornets 101, OT
In Newark, New Jersey, Brook Lopez hit two go-ahead free throws with 24.3 seconds to play in overtime to lift New Jersey over New Orleans.
Sasha Vujacic scored a career-high 25 for the Nets, who hit a season-high 12 3-pointers and ended a three-game skid while inflicting a fourth straight defeat on the Hornets.
New Orleans had three chances to either tie or win the game in the closing seconds but Chris Paul turned the ball over with 19 seconds left and Willie Green missed a jumper with about 5 seconds to go.
Kris Humphries got the rebound after the Green miss and was fouled but he missed two free throws, giving New Orleans one final chance, and it went to Paul. His 3-point attempt at the buzzer went halfway down and came out.
David West led the Hornets with 32 points and 15 rebounds.
Clippers 116, Knicks 108
In New York, Los Angeles won its first road game in eight attempts by beating New York.
Randy Foye scored 17 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter and Blake Griffin added 21 for the Clippers, who had far more energy than the Knicks, building a 20-point lead in the third quarter and holding on thanks to some big plays by Foye.
Amare Stoudemire scored 23 points for the Knicks.
Pacers 104, Bobcats 103
In Indianapolis, Josh McRoberts' tip-in gave Indiana the match-winning lead as the Pacers edged Charlotte.
Roy Hibbert scored 29 points while Danny Granger had 25 points for Indiana, which won for the fifth time in six games since Frank Vogel took over as coach in to replace Jim O'Brien a week and a half ago.
Stephen Jackson had 27 for the Bobcats. He drew contact as he went up for a 30-foot attempt in the final second, but no foul was called.
Wizards 100, Bucks 85
In Washington, the hosts broke an eight-game losing streak by downing Milwaukee.
Nick Young scored a flashy 26 points, including a flying one-handed dunk, and got 11 of those in a 16-4 early third-quarter run that put the Wizards up by 20 points.
JaVale McGee had 16 points and 17 rebounds for Washington.
Brandon Jennings scored 20 points to lead the Bucks, who have lost five of six and fell 2? games behind the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Pistons 103, Cavaliers 94
In Cleveland, the home team lost to Detroit to set another ignominious record; the longest losing streak in US professional team sport.
Cleveland's losing streak reached 26, matching the skid set by the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1976-77.
The Cavaliers will take sole possession of that unwanted record unless they can beat the Los Angeles Clippers next. After that comes a home game against the Washington Wizards, who haven't won on the road all season.
Rodney Stuckey scored 22 to pace the Pistons, who didn't want to be remembered as the team that let the Cavs get off the mat.
Cleveland trailed by 12 points at halftime, and although they pulled within three in the third, they fell apart early in the fourth. Only some late baskets when the game was effectively over made the score respectable.
