Knicks win Atlantic duel with 76ers

THE New York Knicks won their Atlantic division showdown against Philadelphia 85-79 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday to claim their fourth successive victory and snap the 76ers' six-game winning streak.

The division leading Sixers fell to 7-3 with the loss, while second-placed New York improved to 6-4.

"This is a big game," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni told reporters. "It is in our division so it counts for two, one bad for them and one good for us. But it's early, we're only 10 games in. There are plenty of battles to be played."

Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 27 points, scoring 10 in a row for New York during the third quarter, and Amar'e Stoudemire added 20.

The Sixers were playing their third game in as many days, and fifth in six days, but they rallied back after trailing by 17 points in the fourth quarter at 78-61 to turn it into a nail-biter.

New York failed to score a basket over the final nine minutes as its big lead evaporated, but it made just enough from the foul line to stay ahead.

Elsewhere in the NBA, the Los Angeles Clippers rallied to beat Miami 95-89 in overtime. Also, it was: Lakers 90, Jazz 87, OT; Mavericks 90, Celtics 85; Bulls 78, Wizards 64; Thunder 95, Hornets 85; Spurs 101, Rockets 95, OT; Pacers 96, Hawks 84; Kings 98, Raptors 91 and Nuggets 123, Nets 115.
