Kobe, Shaq finally bury hatchet over long-running feud

Former Los Angeles Lakers teammates and one-time bitter rivals Shaquille O鈥橬eal and Kobe Bryant have buried the hatchet in an online podcast where both men addressed their long-running feud.
O鈥橬eal and Bryant鈥檚 tense relationship was a staple of NBA debate for years during the Lakers successful period of dominance in the early 2000s, when the team won three championships and lost a fourth. O鈥橬eal eventually moved to the Miami Heat in 2004 while Bryant remained at the Lakers, where he continues to play as his career draws to a close.
In a lengthy discussion on O鈥橬eal鈥檚 鈥淭he Big Podcast with Shaq,鈥 released on Monday, both men expressed regret at the way their bickering often spilled into public view.
鈥淚 just want people to know that I don鈥檛 hate you, I know you don鈥檛 hate me,鈥 O鈥橬eal, 43, told Bryant on the podcast.
鈥淚 call it today a 鈥榳ork beef,鈥 is what we had. I was young, you was young. But then as I look at it, we won three (championships) out of four so I don鈥檛 really think a lot was done wrong.
鈥淲e had a lot of disagreements, we had a lot of arguments. But I think it fueled us both.鈥
Bryant, 37, meanwhile said he wished the frequent rows with O鈥橬eal could have been kept private.
鈥淭o me, the most important thing is you keep your mouth shut. There鈥檚 no need to go to the press. You keep it internal,鈥 Bryant said. 鈥淗aving our debates within the press was something I wished would been avoided.鈥
Bryant also recalled an exchange where he almost came to blows as a 21-year-old with the older, bigger O鈥橬eal.
鈥淎nd I realized that I probably had a couple of screws loose because I nearly got into a fistfight and I actually was willing to get into a fight with this man,鈥 Bryant said.
鈥淚 went home and I was like, 鈥楧ude, I鈥檝e either got to be the dumbest or the most courageous kid on the face of the Earth.鈥欌
O鈥橬eal said he had actually been left impressed by Bryant鈥檚 nerve in standing up to him. 鈥淭hat just showed me 鈥榊ou know what, this kid ain鈥檛 going to back down to nobody,鈥 O鈥橬eal said.
