Korver sets record for 3-pointers
Atlanta’s Kyle Korver set a National Basketball Association record by draining a three-pointer in his 90th consecutive game as the Hawks beat visiting Cleveland 108-89 on Friday.
Korver’s three-pointer in the first quarter broke the mark of 89 games in a row which was set by Dana Barros in 1996.
“There have been so many great shooters in the NBA so anytime you are able to be a part of something like this it says something,” said Korver, who had 10 points.
Korver, who is an 11-year veteran, missed his first three-point attempt on Friday before nailing the record-breaker.
“It feels good,” he said. “It has been going on for awhile.
“I am glad it is done, very grateful. You try not to think about it too much and just play your game.
“I didn’t even know this record existed until midway through the year last year when people started to talk about it. It is cool, but was never my focus.”
Korver entered the game having made 46.7 percent of his three-point attempts during his amazing run.
Al Horford finished with 22 points and nine rebounds for Atlanta, which has won two straight.
Paul Millsap added 16 points and 14 rebounds while Jeff Teague and Lou Williams finished with 13 points apiece for the Hawks.
Dion Waiters scored a season-high 30 points. Former Los Angeles Laker Andrew Bynum added 20 points and 13 rebounds for Cleveland, which has lost six of its last eight.
Cleveland star Kyrie Irving was held scoreless after going 0-for-9 from the field and 0-for-3 from the free-throw line. It marked the first time in his career that Irving has been held without a point.
Elsewhere, it was: Bucks 109, Wizards 105 (in overtime); Bobcats 105, 76ers 88; Celtics 106, Nuggets 98; Knicks 121, Magic 83; Rockets 105, Warriors 83; Thunder 109, Pelicans 95; Suns 106, Raptors 97; Trail Blazers 130, Jazz 98; and Lakers 106, Kings 100.
