Lions edge past Sharks with late rally
DESPITE Ryan Kelly returning to the fold, the Shanghai Sharks lost last night's Chinese Basketball Association game at home to the Zhejiang Lions 89-93.
Zhejiang's American duo Peter Ramos and Al Thornton totaled 56 points and 22 rebounds. Shanghai's Liu Wei had a team-high 25 points with DJ White adding 22 points and 11 rebounds.
"Tough ball game, I give credit to Zhejiang. I think they really pressured us and forced us out of our offense and I think they had two imposing players: one on the inside, one on the outside that really hurt us," Shanghai coach Dan Panagio said.
Kelly, who was signed to replace the injured Gilbert Arenas, scored only five points.
It remains unclear when Arenas will return to court.
The teams stayed close last night until Shanghai led 66-61 going into the fourth quarter. But Zhejiang rallied with a late run to snatch victory.
Elsewhere, Tracy McGrady scored a game-high 37 points, which was still not enough as the Qingdao Eagles lost their seventh straight, this time to the Beijing Ducks 102-114.
In other CBA games, it was: Shanxi Brave Dragons 103, Jilin Northeast Tigers 99; Liaoning Dinosaurs 121, Xinjiang Flying Tigers 99; Bayi Rockets 107, Jiangsu Dragons 101; Shandong Lions 87, Tianjin Golden Lions 82; Zhejiang Golden Bulls 116, Foshan Long Lions 102; and Dongguan Leopards 105, Fujian Sturgeons 93.
