Mavs top Nets for 13th straight

THE Dallas Mavericks rallied after a stuttering start to extend their league-leading winning streak to 13 games with a 96-87 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday.

Jason Kidd recorded 20 points and nine assists as the Mavericks survived an off-night for Dirk Nowitzki to overturn an 18-point second-quarter deficit.

"Our defensive disposition was stronger, we were more physical and we were more alert," Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said of his team's third quarter performance.

Dallas (45-21) matched the Cleveland Cavaliers for the longest win streak in the league this year and moved within two games of the Los Angeles Lakers for the best record in the Western Conference.

Devin Harris tallied 21 to lead New Jersey (7-57), who scored 17 of the first 20 points and looked to be on their way to a rare victory before Dallas rallied.

Shawn Marion grabbed 13 rebounds and scored eight of his 14 points in the third period as the Mavericks took a 31-15 advantage to take control of the game.

Elsewhere in the National Basketball Association, it was: Grizzlies 111, Celtics 91; Thunder 98, Hornets 83; Jazz 115, Pistons 104; Spurs 97, Knicks 87; Heat 108, Clippers 97; Nuggets 110, Timberwolves 102; Bobcats 102, 76ers 87; and Kings 113, Raptors 90.
