NBA China Extends Partnership With CBA Dongguan Basketball School
NBA China and CBA Dongguan Basketball School announced the extension of their partnership yesterday to develop elite youth basketball talent in China.
As part of the extended agreement, the CBA Dongguan Basketball School, an NBA training center in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, will continue to serve through 2021 as the NBA’s institution for developing elite youth basketball talent in China.
“We are delighted to see our facility has become China’s benchmark for youth basketball training,” said Dongguan Leopards head coach and CBA Dongguan Basketball School Principal Li Qun.
“Through this joint effort, I am confident that we are contributing significantly to the development of basketball in China,” said Li.
“Basketball development is a primary focus of NBA China, and this partnership demonstrates our commitment to developing young basketball talent in China,” said NBA China CEO David Shoemaker.
“We will continue to provide current and future generations of Chinese basketball players with the resources they need to succeed.”
Established in 2011 by NBA China, the CBA and Dongguan New Century, the CBA Dongguan Basketball School is the first-of-its-kind facility for Chinese basketball players between the ages of 12-17.
The facility has trained more than 8,000 players since 2011. Twenty-five NBA players and legends visited the facility, including NBA All-Stars John Wall, Damian Lillard, Derrick Rose and Al Horford, while NBA coaches and trainers have held basketball clinics.
The school has won multiple national youth basketball tournaments, highlighted by its recent achievements at the CBA’s U17 National Tournament Championship and U13 National Championship.
The extended partnership with CBA Dongguan Basketball School builds on the NBA’s basketball and youth development efforts in China. In February 2014, NBA China and Yao Ming launched the NBA Yao Basketball Club to provide basketball training and fitness programs for boys and girls at all skill levels, while also using basketball to teach the importance of teamwork, leadership and communication.
In October 2014, the NBA launched a partnership with the Chinese Ministry of Education to further youth development through the implementation of basketball curricula in Chinese schools and NBA-branded public court refurbishments.
