NBA sets up Heat vs Clippers in China
THE NBA champions Miami Heat are coming to China.
The National Basketball Association has scheduled two pre-season games in October with the reigning champions taking on the Los Angeles Clippers.
The sixth edition of NBA China games will be held in Beijing and Shanghai on October 11 and 14, respectively, featuring nine All-Star players, three NBA finals' Most Valuable Players and five Olympic gold medalists from the two teams.
Tickets for the events will be available next month.
"The games should be extremely fun," the Clippers small forward Caron Butler said in Shanghai yesterday.
"The plan is to win. We don't lack any confidence so we're going to definitely come out and it's going to be a competitive game.
"I don't think this is going to be the usual pre-season type of game. Guys are really going to be amplified up in front of this unbelievable crowd and some true basketball fans. This is going to be fun and competitive."
David Shoemaker, CEO of NBA China, said he was looking forward to bringing the regular season game to China just like NBA did in Europe last season. "It would be a dream come true to see regular season NBA games in this country," Shoemaker said. "There are logistical challenges to that from making that possible."
But for the sports fans in Shanghai it will be a tough call to make as the NBA game in the city clashes with the Shanghai Rolex Masters tennis final on October 14.
