NBA star, Marbury, to retire in China
Former NBA all-star player Stephon Marbury said he has decided to retire in China and will not go back to NBA.
The 34-year-old New Yorker said he has found a second home in China and may probably spend the rest of his life here.
"People in the United States keep asking me if I'm going back to the NBA. I keep telling them I don't have a desire to play in the NBA," Marbury said on his microblog this morning. "The CBA is my home and what I love. I'm letting everyone know on my page now that I will be retiring in China. I want to hang my jersey up here."
Averaging 23 points, 5.3 assists and 2 steals a game, Marbury is leading Beijing Ducks, who signed him in August, to the championship title of this CBA season. The Ducks are currently ranked first in the league after eight straight wins, including the games against the defending champions Guangdong Southern Tigers and last year's runner-up Xinjiang Flying Tigers.
Marbury came to CBA in the 2009-2010 season playing for Shanxi Dragons. The Ducks is his third team in China.
"I love all the fans and the people in China. China is my home," he said.
The former NBA player has expressed several times how he loves the life in Beijing and he may probably settle down for good in the city.
Marbury is also dreaming to coach China's men's basketball team to play in the Olympics.
"I can't wait to one day help lead this country towards preparing to win a medal. That will be a highlight of my life," he said.
Meanwhile, Marbury also plans to sell his Starbury shoes in China by the end of this month.
