Nelson captures career victories record

DON Nelson set the NBA career record for victories by a coach in the Golden State Warriors' 116-107 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves yesterday.

Nelson won his 1,333rd career game, surpassing Lenny Wilkens to move atop the list.

Stephen Curry had 27 points, 14 assists, eight rebounds and a career-high seven steals, and Anthony Tolliver scored a career-high 34 for the Warriors, who mobbed their 69-year-old coach as the game came to a close.

Kevin Love had 17 points and 18 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who were missing leading scorer Al Jefferson because of personal reasons.

Bobcats 104, Hornets 103

At New Orleans, Charlotte clinched the first playoff in its six-year history after Stephen Jackson scored 29 points and D.J. Augustin hit a crucial 3-pointer with 16 seconds left in a victory over New Orleans.

Tyson Chandler had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots in his return to New Orleans for the first time since being traded to Charlotte in exchange for Emeka Okafor. Okafor had seven points and nine rebounds.

Celtics 115, Raptors 104

At Toronto, Rajon Rondo scored 21 points and Paul Pierce had 20 as Boston capitalized on another injury to a Toronto player.

Kevin Garnett scored 19 points, Ray Allen had 18 and Michael Finley 14 as the Celtics won their eighth straight over Toronto, sweeping the series for the second consecutive season.

Sonny Weems scored a career-high 21 for the Raptors.

Nuggets 98, Thunder 94

At Oklahoma City, Chauncey Billups scored 31 points and Carmelo Anthony added 24 as Denver charged back from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Oklahoma City.

The Nuggets held Oklahoma City without a basket for the final 9 minutes while finishing the game on a 22-5 run to pick up a crucial road win in their chase for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

Kevin Durant scored 33 points but missed a shot in the lane that would've tied the score in the final 10 seconds.

Magic 121, Wizards 94

At Orlando, Florida, Dwight Howard had 17 points and 10 rebounds as Orlando beat Washington .

J.J. Redick and Mickael Pietrus added 16 points apiece to pull Orlando within a half-game of the idle Los Angeles Lakers.

Nick Young had 21 points, and Mike Miller scored 16 for the Wizards.

Mavericks 110, Grizzlies 84

At Dallas, Caron Butler scored 23 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 22 points and nine rebounds as Dallas stopped a two-game skid with a victory over Memphis.

Jason Terry contributed 16 points, J.J. Barea had 14, and Jason Kidd had 12 points and 10 assists for Dallas, which is battling Utah, Denver, Phoenix and Oklahoma City for the No. 2 playoff seed in the West.

Rudy Gay scored 23 points for Memphis, which lost its ninth in a row on the road against Dallas. Zach Randolph added 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Mike Conley also scored 17 for the Grizzlies, who've dropped six of seven.

Rockets 113, Jazz 96

At Houston, Aaron Brooks and Kevin Martin scored 28 points each, and Rick Adelman became the 11th coach to reach 900 career victories in Houston's win over Utah.

Chuck Hayes grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and Luis Scola added 24 points for the Rockets.

Carlos Boozer had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Deron Williams added 12 points and seven assists for Utah.

Bucks 108, Nets 89

At Milwaukee, John Salmons scored 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting and Milwaukee beat New Jersey after clinching a playoff berth a day earlier.

Jerry Stackhouse added 18 points and Kurt Thomas had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the fifth-place Bucks, who won their third straight and improved to 2-0 without center Andrew Bogut.

Devin Harris scored 18 of his 25 points in the first quarter as New Jersey fell to 11-67, guaranteeing the Nets will finish with at least a share of the worst record in the league.

Heat 99, 76ers 95

At Miami, Dwyane Wade scored eight of his 22 points in the final four minutes and Dorell Wright added 19 off the bench and surging Miami rallied past Philadelphia for its ninth straight win.

Carlos Arroyo scored 15 points, Mario Chalmers added 12 and Udonis Haslem finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for Miami (44-34), which is on its longest winning streak since March 2007.

Samuel Dalembert put up 19 points and 16 rebounds for Philadelphia.

Pistons 90, Hawks 88

At Auburn Hills, Michigan, Ben Gordon scored 22 points and made two key defensive plays in the final minute, leading injury-riddled Detroit over Atlanta.

Detroit came into the game missing starters Tayshaun Prince (personal reasons) and Richard Hamilton (ankle), then lost Rodney Stuckey to a first-half rib injury. The Pistons were also missing reserves Jason Maxiell (back) and Chris Wilcox (hamstring).

Pacers 113, Knicks 105

At Indianapolis, Danny Granger scored 33 points to help Indiana beat New York for its 10th win in the last 11 home games.

Troy Murphy had 17 points and 12 rebounds, Roy Hibbert scored 15 points and Mike Dunleavy added 14 for Indiana. The Pacers scored 133 points in their previous game, a home win against Houston.

Toney Douglas scored 20 points and Danilo Gallinari added 17 for the Knicks. David Lee had 16 points and 16 rebounds for his fifth straight double-double.
