Nelson ties coaching wins record
COACH Don Nelson tied the NBA record for all-time wins with the 1,332 of his career when the Golden State Warriors defeated the Toronto Raptors.
The Warriors held on for a 113-112 victory on Sunday after Chris Bosh narrowly missed a layup as the buzzer sounded to allow Nelson to join Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens at the top the list.
The 69-year-old Nelson reacted by jumping up and down alongside his team on the sideline.
"You live for moments like that when the team wants something more than you do yourself," Nelson said. "What a game to tie the record. They are so happy that we got it together, as a group they were part of it."
Nelson is currently in his 31st season as a coach and is with his fourth different team. The Warriors head to Washington where Nelson will bid to become the NBA's winningest coach.
In Los Angeles, Manu Ginobili scored 32 points and Tim Duncan added 24 as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Lakers 100-81 to clinch their 13th consecutive playoff berth.
The Spurs had extra incentive since a loss would have increased their chances of facing the defending NBA champions in the first round of the playoffs. Instead, they moved into the No. 7 spot, a half-game ahead of idle Portland.
The Lakers got a season-high 32 points from Pau Gasol and 22 from Kobe Bryant, but failed to clinch the No. 1 seed.
In Boston, Ray Allen scored a season-high 33 points, hitting his sixth 3-pointer to give the Celtics a four-point lead with 48 seconds left. Boston held on for a 117-113 win despite 42 points from LeBron James.
Also, it was: Magic 107, Grizzlies 92; Thunder 116, Timberwolves 108; Wizards 109, Nets 99; Pacers 133, Rockets 102; and Knicks 113, Clippers 107.
