North Carolina beats Michigan State 89-72
NORTH Carolina has beaten Michigan State 89-72 to win its fifth NCAA basketball championship.
Ty Lawson led a record-setting first half and the Tar Heels coasted to an easy victory last night at Ford Field.
The Tar Heels (34-4) started the season as the unanimous No. 1 pick and breezed through the NCAA tournament. Lawson finished with 21 points and eight steals.
Goran Suton had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Michigan State (31-7). The Spartans lost for the first time in three championship game appearances.
