Nuggets make offer to Kleiza to entice him back from Greece

THE Denver Nuggets have made a qualifying contract offer to restricted free agent Linas Kleiza, the team said yesterday, in an effort to entice him back from Greece.

Kleiza, whose NBA rights are held by the Nuggets and last played for them in 2008/09, helped Olympiakos reach the Euroleague Championship final last season while leading the Euroleague in scoring with 17.1 points per game.

The 6-foot-8 (2.03m), 245-pound (111kg) Lithuanian forward averaged 8.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in four seasons with Denver after being acquired in a trade from Portland in 2005.

The Nuggets, who posted a 53-29 record but lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Utah Jazz, did not release the terms of the offer.

Kleiza had signed a two-year, US$12.2 million contract with Olympiakos, the Denver Post reported.
