Pacers widen lead as Heat lose to Nets

Indiana widened its lead atop the NBA's Eastern Conference with a powerful defensive performance to rout Washington 93-66 yesterday while nearest rival Miami suffered another Big Apple defeat, being beaten by Brooklyn in double overtime.

Among the day's other games, Kyle Korver's late free throws steered Atlanta past Houston, the Clippers recorded their biggest-ever win over the Lakers in the clash of Los Angeles rivals, and Stephen Curry's late basket lifted Golden State over Boston.

Indiana's David West scored 20 points and C.J. Watson had 16 for the league-leading Pacers, who used an 11-3 run in the third quarter to draw clear of Washington.

The Wizards, who had won their previous three road games, faced an uphill task against Indiana where they have not won in seven years and were not helped by poor shooting from the foul line, going 9 of 23 on free throws.

Bradley Beal scored 17 points to lead Washington, which has lost 11 of 12 against the Pacers.

Atlanta's Kyle Korver scored 20 points, including four free throws in the final 16 seconds, to enable the Hawks to hold on for an 83-80 win over fast-finishing Houston.

Paul Millsap also had 20 points for the Hawks, fell behind 76-73 before Korver's 3-pointer tied the game. DeMarre Carroll's 3 soon after gave Atlanta a one-point lead which held.

James Harden had 25 points to lead the Rockets, who had scored 11 unanswered points to take that final-quarter lead.

Brooklyn's Joe Johnson scored 32 points as the rejuvenated Nets beat Miami 104-95 for their fifth-straight win.

Shaun Livingston dominated double overtime with two baskets and two blocked shots, finishing with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists over 51 minutes while starting for injured Deron Williams.

Brooklyn is unbeaten in January, having added the Heat to a list of scalps that includes Oklahoma City and Golden State.

LeBron James had 36 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Heat, but fouled out with 36 seconds left in the first overtime. The visitors managed to push it to a second overtime without him, but it was all Nets from there against a Miami team already missing Dwyane Wade and two other starters.

The Clippers' Blake Griffin had 33 points and 12 rebounds to power his team to a 123-87 rout of the Lakers.

Darren Collison had 20 points and seven assists for the Clippers, who set up their win by shooting 71 percent in the first quarter.

Kendall Marshall scored 16 points for the struggling Lakers, who had 21 turnovers, shot only 34 percent and have lost 10 of 11.

Golden State's Stephen Curry hit a go-ahead jumper with 2.1 seconds left to lift the Warriors past Boston 99-97.

Curry came off a pick-and-roll with David Lee before hitting the high-arching shot to electrify the sellout crowd of 19,596. Gerald Wallace missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, sending Boston to its seventh straight loss.

Andre Iguodala had 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds for Golden State.

Jeff Green, who had tied the scores before Curry's winner, finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Celtics.

Memphis' Mike Conley matched his career high with 31 points as the Grizzlies used a fourth-quarter burst to overwhelm Phoenix 104-99.

Zach Randolph had 20 points and 13 rebounds for Memphis while Goran Dragic led the Suns with 21 points and eight assists,

Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points to lead the Mavericks to a 107-90 victory over New Orleans, which suffered a fourth-straight defeat.

Minnesota's Nikola Pekovic scored 26 points in 27 minutes to push the Timberwolves past Charlotte 119-92.

Detroit's Josh Smith had 22 points in an outstanding all-around game, helping the Pistons end a six-game skid with a 114-104 victory over Philadelphia.

Cleveland's Kyrie Irving had 25 points and eight assists to lead the Cavaliers to a 113-102 win over Utah.

Chicago's Carlos Boozer had 19 points and 13 rebounds in his first game back from a knee injury as the Bulls won 81-72 at Milwaukee.
