Pistons deny Warriors record tie

The Golden State Warriors failed to match the best mid-season win-loss record in NBA history when they lost 95-113 at Detroit on Saturday, suffering their second loss in three games.

The Warriors had been aiming to match the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers and 1995-96 Chicago Bulls in reaching the midway point of the season at 38-3, but fell short.

They did retain a 10-1/2 game lead in the Pacific Division as their nearest rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers, lost at home against the Sacramento Kings 110-103 to end a 10-game winning streak.

Much of the pregame talk around the Pistons-Warriors clash centered on how well Kentavious Caldwell-Pope might be able to restrict Golden State ace Stephen Curry. The Warriors star scored 38 points, but Caldwell-Pope gave the Pistons a boost offensively with 20 points of his own.

Detroit retired Ben Wallace’s No. 3 jersey at halftime, and by that time the Pistons led 65-49 on a raucous night at the Palace on Auburn Hills in Michigan.

Andre Drummond had 14 points and 21 rebounds, and Reggie Jackson scored 20 points for Detroit, which had six players in double figures.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia had a rare comfortable victory, and notched only its fifth win of the season, as the 76ers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 114-89.

Elsewhere on Saturday, it was: Celtics 119, Wizards 117; Hawks 114, Nets 86; Jazz 109, Lakers 82; Grizzlies 103, Knicks 95; and Bucks 105, Hornets 92.
