Pistons stymie James and Heat
Miami’s 10-game winning streak came to an end with a 107-97 home-court defeat at the hands of Detroit on Tuesday.
The Pistons had seven players score in double figures as they hung on against a Heat comeback in the fourth quarter.
Kyle Singler’s 18 points led the way for Detroit as Greg Monroe and Rodney Stuckey each added 16 points and Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith both scored 15 points.
The Heat had not lost since Boston won at Miami on November 9.
LeBron James and Michael Beasley each scored 23 points to pace the Heat, who had won 14 of their previous 16 meetings with the Pistons.
Andre Drummond scored 10 points and grabbed 18 rebounds and the Pistons took full advantage of 11 steals, four from Jennings, to produce 29 points off 19 Heat turnovers.
The Heat trailed 82-68 entering the fourth quarter and fell behind by as many as 17 points before pulling within 91-88 on a James slam dunk.
But James and Chris Bosh each missed potential tying 3-point shots and Miami went nearly four minutes without making a shot from the field, falling behind 98-91 and coming no closer the rest of the way.
Bosh added 14 points and Ray Allen 12 for Miami, which was kept to only 43.9 percent shooting from the field.
In other games, it was: 76ers 126, Magic 125 (2OT); Mavericks 89, Bobcats 82; Nuggets 111, Nets 87; Grizzlies 110, Suns 91; Celtics 108, Bucks 100; Thunder 97, Kings 95; and Warriors 112, Raptors 103.
Philadelphia rookie Michael Carter-Williams fashioned a triple-double and had a hand in seven of the eight points his team scored in the second overtime as Philadelphia outlasted the Orlando Magic to end a four-game losing streak.
Carter-Williams had 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, the second triple-double of his brief career with the Sixers (7-12).
Dirk Nowitzki shook off a poor first half to carry the slumping Dallas Mavericks to a victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.
Charlotte (8-11) not only blew a 12-point lead with a poor fourth quarter, but suffered a big loss when forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist left the game with a broken left hand.
Nowitzki scored 25 points for Dallas (11-8), 21 in the second half and 14 in the fourth quarter after shooting 1-for-10 in the first half.
On the strength of a dominant third quarter, the Denver Nuggets defeated the Brooklyn Nets to extend their winning streak to seven games.
Timofey Mozgov had 17 points and a career-high 20 rebounds for the Nuggets (11-6), who outscored the Nets 31-15 in the third quarter.
