Raptors ruin Wall's comeback
THE Toronto Raptors spoiled the return of No. 1 draft pick John Wall to the line-up by routing the Washington Wizards 127-108 on Wednesday.
Wall, whose ankle and knee injuries kept him out of the last two games, came off the bench to score 19 points and deliver eight assists, but the Wizards could not contain the hot-shooting Raptors.
Andrea Bargnani scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half when Toronto exploded for a 72-52 lead, and DeMar DeRozan scored a team-high 20 to help the Raptors (7-11) snap a two-game losing streak.
"Being able to run, with all the weapons and athletes we have and just being able to kick it ahead and let them make plays makes the game so much easier," Toronto point guard Jerryd Bayless said.
In a dominant effort, seven players scored in double-figures for the Raptors, who shot 58 percent and out-rebounded their opponent 52-30.
"I don't even want to talk about it. That's like a video game stat," Wall said of Toronto's season-high scoring output. "They can get any shot any time. They were getting dunks after dunks, layups after layups and foul after foul."
Sonny Weems added 18 points to help keep Washington winless on the road this season at 0-9.
JaVale McGee recorded 21 points but three-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas made just one of 10 shots and scored just seven points as the Wizards (5-12) lost their fourth straight.
Arenas entered the night averaging 25 points per contest over his last three games but he fell flat and Toronto avenged a 94-109 loss to Wizards on November 16.
In New Jersey, Russell Westbrook capped a 38-point, 15-rebound performance by scoring all of Oklahoma City's 13 points in the third overtime as the Thunder overcame the absence of an injured Kevin Durant with a 123-120 win against the New Jersey Nets.
Jeff Green added a career-high 37 points as the Thunder outlasted New Jersey in a game in which the Nets equalized at the end of regulation on a running 26-foot 3-pointer by Anthony Morrow, then blew leads of six points in the first overtime and three points with 4.6 seconds to go in the second.
In Houston, Kevin Martin scored 22 points and Shane Battier added 11 of his 17 in the final three minutes to lift the Rockets 109-99 over Los Angeles.
The loss is the fourth in a row for the Lakers.
Lamar Odom had a season-high 25 points with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
In Los Angeles, Blake Griffin had 31 points and 13 rebounds, while Eric Gordon added 21 points as the Clippers ended an 18-game skid against San Antonio with a 90-85 win.
Elsewhere, it was: Magic 107, Bulls 78; Celtics 99, Trail Blazers 95; Heat 97, Pistons 72; Mavericks 100, Timberwolves 86; Hawks 112, Grizzlies 109; and Hornets 89, Bobcats 73.
