Rondo stars as Celtics drub Magic, Heat outclass Clippers

RAJON Rondo scored 11 of his 26 points in the third quarter as the Boston Celtics beat the Orlando Magic 91-80 in the NBA on Sunday.

Boston led 46-43 at halftime and stretched that to 70-55 with 3:36 left in the third quarter. At that point, the Celtics had made 9 of their 10 shots in the period while the Magic had hit just 4 of 18.

Paul Pierce added 18 points and Kevin Garnett had 16 for the Celtics, who improved to 23-4 at home.

Dwight Howard had 28 points and 13 rebounds for the Magic, who lost for the fifth time in eight games. Celtics guard Ray Allen made two 3-pointers to move within three of the NBA record of 2,560 held by Reggie Miller.

In Miami, Dwyane Wade had 28 points, eight rebounds and eight assists as the Heat beat the Los Angeles Clippers 97-79 to stretch their winning streak to six games. Chris Bosh scored 16, Eddie House added 15 and LeBron James had 12 points for Miami. The Heat started the fourth quarter on an 18-4 burst to pull away.

Blake Griffin had his 42nd double-double for the season, finishing with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Randy Foye scored 15, Baron Davis added 14 and Ryan Gomes added 12 for Los Angeles, which fell to 3-17 away from home, not the best of signs for a team now two outings in to what'll become an 11-game road trip by the end of the month.

In New York, Amare Stoudemire matched his season high with 41 points as the Knicks beat Philadelphia 117-103 to split a home-and-away series.

Elsewhere, it was: Pacers 105, Nets 86.
