Scintillating Sharks grab second win
HAVING defeated Guangsha Lions on Wednesday night, Shanghai dismantled a visiting Jilin Tigers in equally impressive fashion - 85-67 - as Mike Harris and Liu Wei continued their outstanding form to help the Sharks claim another victory in Shanghai.
Jilin, which was third in the CBA standings at the start of the game, arrived in Shanghai looking to close the gap with the league leaders, the Beijing Ducks.
However, it soon discovered that the resurgent Sharks weren't going to be pushed around and after Peng Fei had helped the hosts open up a lead in the first quarter, slick shooting by Liu and Harris in the second allowed the Sharks to go into halftime leading 42-23.
Coming back after the interval, Shanghai continued to keep the scoreboard turning over and Jilin's key players Cartier Martin and Osama Dahglas were rapidly fading into the background as a swaggering Sharks side continued to take the game to the Tigers. Indeed, the later stages of the game became a procession as the Sharks line-up continued to move the scoreboard along at a rapid pace.
As the buzzer rang at the end of the game, Shanghai players turned to each other to celebrate a second consecutive victory.
Harris made 28 while Ryan Forehan-Kelly (16), Liu (14) and Peng (10) all played their part in a scintillating victory that will have impressed the onlooking Yao Ming, who was watching the game from his personal box.
In other results from around the CBA, Beijing Ducks remain top of the table following a 99-97 victory over Xinjiang Flying Tigers. Elsewhere, JR Smith's 52 points helped Zhejiang Bulls beat Bayi Rockets 113-91. Defending champions Guangdong Southern Tigers got back to winning ways by beating Shandong Flaming Bulls 98-93 thanks to 27 points from Zhu Fangyu.
