Shanghai Sharks enlist Marcus Landry from NBA
SHANGHAI Sharks has signed in former NBA player, Marcus Landry, as their new small forward to replace the injured Ryan Forehan-Kelly, the club said this morning.
The 26-year-old player is due to arrive tomorrow and make his debut in the game against Zhejiang Lions on Sunday, the Sharks said on its official website.
"The team made an emergency plan to find a new foreign player last Sunday night after Ryan was injured," said Zhang Chi, the Sharks spokesman. "Fortunately the team will enjoy a bye in the next round, which gives Marcus time to adjust."
A University of Wisconsin graduate, Landry joined the New York Knicks in 2009 and was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2010. The 2.01-meter player then joined his brother Carl at the Sacramento Kings but was released soon. Later he signed with the Kings' NBA D-League affiliate, the Reno Bighorns.
During the 2010-2011 D-League, Landry averaged 17.6 points and 4.4 rebounds.
Before joining the Sharks, Landry just ended his contract with the Phoenix Suns. His brother Carl used to be a teammate with Yao Ming in the Houston Rockets and is well-known by the Chinese basketball fans.
