Sharks' Arenas suffers a pulled thigh muscle

FORMER NBA All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas who now serves Shanghai Sharks was diagnosed of a pulled inner thigh muscles after a magnetic resonance imaging scan in Beijing, the team announced this afternoon.

The Sharks said the 30-year-old player will do some rehabilitation training under the guidance of team doctors and it is not clear when he will be able to return to the court.

"Arenas will need rest and therapy in the team and the physical coach will arrange special exercise for him," Shanghai Shark said on its official Weibo microblog this afternoon. "When he will return to the court depends on the recovery of his thigh."

Fans in Beijing said Arenas was able to walk and was in a good mood.

The Agent Zero injured himself in his Chinese Basketball Association debut as the Sharks lost to the defending champions Beijing Ducks 78-94.

Arenas, who signed with Yao Ming-owned Shanghai Sharks last week, limped off the court halfway through the first quarter of Saturday night's opening game of the 2012-2013 season and sat out the rest of the match.

"He pulled a hip flexor (muscle), he will be day-to-day ... obviously we would like to have him back as soon as possible," Shanghai's American coach Dan Panaggio told reporters.

Team officials said earlier Arenas could be out in about one week.
