Sharks fall to Brave Dragons

WITH the team's biggest name, Gilbert Arenas, still absent, the Shanghai Sharks suffered their fourth loss in the 2012/2013 Chinese Basketball Association season last night, falling 106-123 to the Shanxi Brave Dragons.

Shanxi's American duo of Marcus Williams and Charles Gaines totaled 60 points. The team's 123 points also refreshed the highest score this season.

The Sharks' DJ White scored a game-high 32 points. Liu Wei, who only played for three quarters, contributed 18 points.

Shanghai only managed to tie the game in the first five minutes but, with a 9-2 run, led by Williams, Shanxi established a lead which it kept until the end.

With a Liu Ziqiu three-pointer, the Sharks made it a one-point game at 22-23 at the end of the first quarter. Gaines, who was named the best foreign player of the CBA for last week, helped the Brave Dragons widen the lead to go into the break at 54-43.

With both Williams and Gaines on court, the Brave Dragons maintained a double-digit lead to seal an easy victory.

In other games, Yi Jianlian scored 41 to help the Guangdong Southern Tigers beat the Dongguan Leopards 107-93 despite Lester Hudson's game-high 51 points for the Leopards.

Stephon Marbury scored 38 points with seven assists as the Beijing Ducks defeated the Shandong Lions 105-98.

Tracy McGrady only had 10 points as the Qingdao Eagles lost their sixth straight, 84-114 to the Liaoning Dinosaurs.
