Sharks fall to Tigers in opener
The Shanghai Sharks went down fighting to the Guangdong Southern Tigers 91-95 in Game 1 of their Chinese Basketball Association playoffs at Pudong’s Yuanshen Stadium last night.
It was a close game throughout and the Sharks were two points short at 91 to Guangdong’s 93 with 40 seconds left on the clock. American guard Quincy Douby failed to put in a two-point equalizer and lost the ball to the visitors for a last-gasp attack. Sharks forward Darnell Jackson had a game-high 33 points and 14 rebounds. Captain Liu Wei contributed 19 points and Douby 17 points. Guangdong’s Yi Jianlian scored 24 points and caught 14 rebounds. The teams will head to Dongguan, Guangdong Province, for the next two games of the best-of-5 quarterfinals before returning to Shanghai.
