Sharks have yet to decide over Arenas or Millsap
SHANGHAI Sharks have yet to make up their mind on signing Gilbert Arenas even as the new Chinese Basketball Association season draws near.
Yao Ming's team is still evaluating the former National Basketball Association All-Star point guard although he has been training with them for eight straight days.
But "The Agent Zero" did not show up for training yesterday morning.
"We're still evaluating him. I don't think that's a done deal yet," Sharks head coach Daniel Panaggio told reporters yesterday.
"The roster is pretty well set. It's just one question mark.
"We're a day or two away from making our decision but it'll be done."
Panaggio said the Sharks were evaluating the overall condition of the 30-year-old player, especially his physical shape. "There's a lot to weigh out. There's medical history, which is of primary importance, because whoever does fill that spot he's got to be durable and we've got to depend on him for 32 regular season games and hopefully playoffs," Panaggio explained.
"I have concerns of his overall health condition.
"I have to listen to the physician's reports and our team doctor's reports and in addition to see where his physical level is and how he fits in hour team's situation."
The 2012/2013 CBA regular season will kick off next week and the Sharks have yet to decide on whether they will go with Arenas or Elijah Millsap.
"We've done all the testing. We're looking at everything. We have a very good player now and we have to evaluate the play we have," Panaggio added.
The team even had Arenas and Millsap compete against each other.
"It was great competition and they are both exceptional players. They're both very talented," Panaggio said.
"Gilbert is a very experienced, skillful and talented player. He probably gravitates more having the ball in his hands. He's a great pick and roll player.
"Elijah is a younger, very aggressive defensive player, rebounder and transition player. We're looking at not just medical but we're looking at how well he will mix with the group."
But the Sharks have announced the signing of Chang Tsun-Hsien from Chinese Taipei who graduated from Brigham Young University of Hawaii earlier this month. The 23-year-old guard is rated as the next Jeremy Lin who now plays for the Houston Rockets.
