Sharks maintain winning streak
SHANGHAI kept its recent mini-renaissance alive with a 98-96 victory over Jiangsu Dragons as the Sharks continue to climb up the CBA table.
The Sharks have now won four out of their last fives games.
Both sides started the game aggressively and players from both sides quickly found their scoring touch. The game's intensity was personified by the physical duel between the Dragon's towering American centre, Jackson Vroman, and Zhang Zhaoxu, and both men used their strength and reach to keep the scoreboard ticking along at a rapid pace.
A pulsating first half ended with the score set at 44-42 and both sides left the court well aware that they would have to continue playing with the same intensity after the break if they were to win.
The third quarter was equally action packed and although the Sharks kept hold of their lead, the Dragons continued to stay in the game thanks to the resilience of Vroman and an increasingly influential Liu Yahui.
However, for all of the Dragon's hard work, it was the Sharks who remained in control of the game and as the match crept into the fourth quarter, a sudden scoring spree from the away side left their hosts reeling. Shanghai had opened up a nine-point lead and was ahead 77-68, thanks to the ruthless finishing of Ryan Forehan-Kelly and Mike Harris.
An impressive six players collected double digit scoring hauls, including another swaggering set of performances from Mike Harris, who scored 26 points, and Ryan Forehan-Kelly, who made 22 against his former club. Meng Lingyuan helped himself to 12 points whilst Zhang got 11. Liu Wei and Ji Xiang notched 10 points.
Elsewhere, the Beijing Ducks finally lost their first game of the season - 101-105 against the Foshan Dralions. Also, Wilson Chandler's Guangsha Lions beat J.R. Smith's Zhejiang Bulls 96-85. Defending champions Guangdong also beat Xinjiang 109-92.
