Sharks sack struggling West
SHANGHAI Sharks coach said foreign guard Delonte West was sacked to adjust the team’s structure.
“It’s been hard for the team in both the matches and in training. Zhang Zhaoxu is exhausted after every match. Wu Guanxi still can’t play (due to dispute over his previous contract)… The management thought it was necessary to adjust the team’s structure,” said Ma Yuenan, Sharks head coach.
West, who moved to Shanghai from Fujian Sturgeons this season, played in four of the first six games for the Sharks, scoring a disappointing average of 10 points and 2.6 rebounds.
“West was named captain for the first time in his professional career,” a report on the club website said. “But West did not take his responsibility well. He complained to the referees, showed a negative attitude in defense ... and was also troubled by a back injury.”
